Grounding our feet or body to the earth for extra energy

You may have heard of grounding or earthing.  We can get energy this way simply by placing our feet on the earth.  Or if you’re like me, I combine sunbathing (safe sun exposure) with lying on the grass.  This gives me the best of both worlds.

Nature offers us so much in terms of our physical and mental health.  It’s definitely my happy place and I’ll connect with it whenever I get the chance.

Walking barefoot on the earth, also known as grounding, helps us recharge by connecting with the natural energy of the planet. The earth’s surface carries a subtle electric charge that can balance our body’s energy, reduce stress, and even improve our mood. Whether it’s feeling the cool grass under our feet or the warm sand at the beach, grounding brings a sense of calm and refreshment, leaving us feeling more energised and in tune with nature.

Also, grounding in an open space near water or trees, can give us an extra energy boost.

Check out the following infographic to see the different ways we can connect to the earth.

Listening to positive & empowering music & podcasts gives us an energy boost

There’s nothing more uplifting and energy giving than listening to positive content. Whether it’s music or an interesting podcast, our energy can be replenished through our engagement.  Watching what we consume in all areas of our lives effects our energy.  Obviously, I can only go on personal experience, but I know that if I gravitate to positive and empowering content, my energy increases.

Surround yourself with friends who uplift you

I’ve talked a lot about energy vampires in previous posts.  I don’t really mean this in a bad way but I mean it more in a way to be mindful of how you feel after an encounter with certain people.  Do they energise you or drain you?

Our energy is very precious so try not to waste it on associating with people that may drag you down energetically.  Steer clear of those who gossip about others.  Stay in your lane!

Increasing our energy levels is multi-faceted

I’m all about anything natural, authentic and as close to nature as possible.  Anything artificial, zaps my energy.  There are lots of things in our environment that can impact our energy levels.

Taking time out for ourselves to rest and refocus is an essential part of not only increasing our energy, but protecting it from negative forces.

There isn’t just one thing that helps our energy levels increase.  It’s a combination of things we do in our lifestyle that help us get energy.  For me, probably ditching processed food and eliminating all additives has given me the biggest energy boost.  I know my body can handle small amounts but not too much.  I’m now very sensitive to anything artificial – that goes for people and situations too!

Increasing our energy levels naturally

This is along the same lines as previous info but touches more on the internal processes that interfere with our biology.  For example, how we relax, the food we consume, and even what we put on our skin, can impact our energy.

This can then impact how we feel on a daily basis. This then impacts the choices we make.  For example, if we are sluggish and our thinking is unclear, we may choose a takeaway over cooking a healthy meal.  If our energy is depleted, we may not exercise.  Everything has an impact.

Movement gives us energy

Movement creates energy by converting stored potential energy into kinetic energy. When we move, our muscles contract and generate force, which in turn produces mechanical energy. On a cellular level, movement increases circulation and oxygen flow, fuelling our cells with ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the body’s main energy source. This process helps generate heat, improves metabolism, and enhances overall vitality.

Whether it’s walking, stretching, or dancing, movement keeps our energy levels up by keeping our body’s systems active and engaged.

We need to do some form of movement every day.  It doesn’t really matter what it is but if we don’t use it, we lose it. Check out this study that explains how Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is the source of energy for use and storage at the cellular level.

How can animals give us energy?

Animals can give us energy in several ways, both physically and emotionally. Spending time with pets or animals can boost our mood by reducing stress and increasing feel-good hormones like serotonin and oxytocin. Their playful and loving nature encourages movement, whether it’s walking a dog or playing with a cat, which helps keep us active and energised.

On a deeper level, animals also provide emotional support and companionship, which can lift our spirits and combat fatigue. Even observing animals in nature can bring a sense of calm and renewal, making us feel more connected and recharged.

Expressing gratitude to keep us feeling energised

I’m big on expressing gratitude.  I’m so grateful for everything that’s happened in my life, even the crappy bits because I’ve learned from them.  Once we learn to see the positive in things, even the small things, we start to gather an understanding that life is what we make it.  We can either see the positive in things, or we can see the negative.  Either way is ok but our interpretation of events can either help us develop resilience of fall into negative thought patterns.  This can impact how we deal with future challenges.

Expressing gratitude helps us feel energised by shifting our focus to positive emotions, which can boost our overall well-being. When we acknowledge the good in our lives, our brain releases dopamine and serotonin—neurotransmitters that enhance mood, reduce stress, and increase motivation. Gratitude also improves sleep, strengthens relationships, and lowers cortisol levels, all of which contribute to greater energy levels. By fostering a mindset of appreciation, we naturally feel lighter, more optimistic, and more inspired to take on the day.  Give it a try!

Get your creative groove on for energy rejuvenation

When we use creativity as an outlet, we not only give back something to the collective, we focus our energy into something positive.  This is an energy boost, not a sucker.

Ask yourself, what would you do if money wasn’t an issue.  I believe we are all here to share something with the world, we just need to find out what that is.  Choose to put your energy into something that matters rather than endless scrolling which achieves nothing and depletes our energy levels.

Doing something creative gives us an energy boost by engaging our brain in a fun and stimulating way. When we create—whether it’s digital art, writing, playing music, or even cooking—we tap into a state of flow, where time seems to disappear, and we feel fully immersed in the moment. This process releases dopamine, the brain’s feel-good chemical, which enhances motivation and reduces our stress. Creativity also provides an outlet for self-expression, helping to clear mental clutter and refresh our mind. By sparking inspiration and joy, creative activities leave us feeling recharged and more alive.
