Choices. So Many Choices

Choices. So many choices

· it all comes down to US ·

Every day we are presented with choices, so many choices, and it’s ultimately down to US, what we do and how we respond. We ultimately create the reality we want to live in, so it makes sense to acknowledge the fact that we are in CHARGE of our choices.

So let’s break it down…….

Choose how we live

While some events in life are definitely out of our control, the majority of things that crop up from day to day, are. How we choose to live our lives comes down to the choices we make. They could be big choices, small choices, or somewhere in between. They could be hard choices or easy choices but either way, we make decisions throughout our day that affect our lives. We literally make 100s of choices a day from what we choose to do from the moment we wake up, to the time we decide to go to bed.

Choices come in the form of whether we choose to exercise or not. Eat healthily, or not. Look after our mental health, or not. How we treat those around us. We are the designers of our lives so living by what we believe, is in the best interest for ourselves, and fundamentally comes down to us and our choices.

The way I look at it, is I’m here to learn and live life. Doing nothing with my life would seem like a waste to me so that’s why I live every day the best way I can. To get the most out of life. I choose to do this no matter if I’m faced with a crappy part of life, or a good part, I am the one who chooses how I respond.

Heads up! More to come on this further down.

Maintaining a balance in life can help us out immensely. Sort of like the Yin/Yang symbol. Dark with light. Positive with negative. Not too much of one thing or the other. Taking the time to contemplate our lives but still having fun along the way and enjoying life is what life should be about.

Here are some ways I help find balance in my life. Finding our purpose helps.

choose how we spend our time

Choosing how to spend our time can be complicated or not complicated. It’s down to our perception. Although we might ‘feel’ like there’s no time available for US, asking ourselves what we spend our time on can be confronting. Slipping into binge-watching a show or program can be VERY tempting, not to mention addicting.

I like to think of it as ‘what else am I doing when I’m ‘binge watching’ something?’ Sometimes, the shows we are binge-watching go hand in hand with other forms of ‘binging’. Binging on food or alcohol can be related to sitting for long periods of time. Next time we’re binge-watching something, we can take note of what else we might be binging on. What are we doing with our hands? What are we doing with our heads?

Choosing to spend our time on meaningful activities also falls into this category. We can fill our time up with fictional stuff, or we can opt for more ‘real life’ content that helps us to expand our consciousness and grow.

Choosing to keep our brain active can help with keeping our connection to others, using our imagination, releasing tension, all while learning new stuff.

choose the company we keep

How I spend my time is very important to me so choosing who I spend my time with is one of my top priorities. I’m sure we’ve all come into contact with an individual who can just walk in the room and literally suck the life out of us from their negative energy. They don’t even need to talk. Just their presence in the room can be draining.

While we may not be able to escape such company, we CAN take measures to avoid this kind of situation, or we can change our response to it. And while some situations might be out of our hands, who we spend our free time with isn’t.

We naturally gravitate towards people who make us feel good. We can feel their positive energy just like we can the negative ones. Seek out the people who make us feel good. We can judge this by how we feel after a conversation or interaction with someone. Do we feel energised and ready to take on the world :-), or do we feel like crawling under a rock somewhere? Take note next time to analyse your energy levels after such contact.

choose to take a chance in life

Be openminded. Taking a chance on something is what most of us fear the most. Will it work out? What will people think of me? What will it mean for my future? The main issue I have with this is that if we don’t try, we won’t know. If we think something will fail, well of course it will fail if we maintain this pattern of thinking. It’s like stating the obvious. unless we change the narrative.

Taking a chance in life isn’t about putting our life at risk or taking unnecessary risks that are just plain crazy. Taking a chance in life comes down to just giving something a go without the fear of ‘what if’. If we all lived in total fear, there would be very little movement or creation in the world around us. But this might mean we have to get outside of our comfort zone in order to EVOLVE our thinking. Not moving out of our comfort zone is related to inhibiting our chance taking ability because it can be too easy to stay super comfortable within our comfort zone.

If no one ever took any chances, we wouldn’t see all amazing the things around us, which have all been created by someone. Shifting our mindset is key to change as we can CHOOSE to do create something or not.

Ways to Get Out of Our Comfort Zone

choose the path we go up, down or sideways

Try not to take life too seriously. Opportunities will open up all the time and whether we see them or not is entirely down to us, our perception of things, and our belief system. If we hold the belief system that there can be an opportunity in everything, we are more likely to choose something that suits that belief.

Breaking out of old beliefs and deciding to choose a different path takes strength, with a side dish of letting go. It’s about finding balance, motivation, while at the same time, letting go and just going with the flow. Discipline, accompanied with the ability to surrender, thrown in with letting go of fear and being comfortable with this, can help us change and grow. This combo can cause the path to feel like an edgy rocky mess at the best of times, but it is possible to ‘relax’ into it to just see what happens. Let go!

choose to live in the present

The only time we have is actually right now. We think of the past in the present moment. We think of the future in the present moment. Yet if we allow ourselves to do this, we’re not living any of these moments in the actual NOW. As humans, we love to plan, think ahead, think something is better than what we have (queue the Joneses and who the F are they anyway?), and we do almost everything we can to not be doing what we’re actually doing right now. Searching. Always searching. How bizarre 😉

We can never get the same moment again. Yes, that’s right. Once this moment has gone (as you’re reading this), we move onto the next, and then the next, and the next. It makes sense to enjoy what we’re doing right now even if it’s shite. The shite moment will pass, just like the great moment will pass. They ALL pass no matter what type of moment we’re experiencing. Choosing how we respond in the present moment is key. I choose to see all the moments as a learning experience and am grateful for all the moments. The shite ones. The good ones. The mediocre ones. (sidenote: super stoked I could spell ‘mediocre’ without a spell check).

choose how & where we spend our money

Choosing how we spend our time, the people we connect with, whether we live in the present, past or future, and how we spend our moolah, are all our choice. And… every dollar we spend has an impact. We can choose how we spend our money and this choice not only impacts our own health and well-being, it impacts our world. The world we all walk on. It impacts our world in a massive way because it affects our planet which ultimately affects all of us.

We can make informed choices about where and how we spend our money. We can do this through research. This includes not taking too much and only taking what we need. Finding balance in this area is also key because we can still live a fulfilled, happy and content life that doesn’t cost a literal arm and a leg by sparing a thought for who and how a product is manufactured and distributed.

Making a conscious effort to choose where we place our money can not only help us, it can help future generations long after we leave this planet.

Bottom Line Yo

Each and every day we are presented with a multitude of choices. We have so many choices, and it’s ultimately down to US and our behaviour, what we choose to do and how we choose to respond. We create our reality so it makes sense to acknowledge the fact that we are in CHARGE of our choices.
