Learning how to empower ourselves and those around us is a crucial element of life and something we need to dig deep for at this point in our civilization. When there is almost a 24/7 fear campaign raging outside, being able to detach ourselves from this is an integral key to finding the courage to carry on in the best way possible.

Digging deep and overcoming things that may be put out there to disempower us does require a tweak in our perception and it is possible by utilising a few strategies. So let’s dive into some ways we can learn to empower ourselves, and then empower those around us.

Embrace our uniqueness

Dare to stand out! Our uniqueness is what makes us awesome! Unfortunately, through years of traditional schooling (some would call it a system of indoctrination system), our uniqueness is quashed out of us. There’s no time to question and anyone who might have a different school of thought is often shunned and ostracized. Why is this?

We often hear ’embrace your inner geek’ and I think this is definitely happening but how we got to being a geek being a bad thing is what I’m getting at. Why have we been conditioned to hide who we really are? If there’s something to take away from this, being who we are, who we really are, is empowering in itself. It’s time to throw caution to the wind and start being ourselves in every aspect. Be YOU (not what others want you to be).

be vocal by empowering our inner voice

Following on from not speaking out during our schooling is not speaking out in adulthood. We have been conditioned to not stand out from the crowd and at the moment, if we speak out against the common narrative (you know what I mean here), we’re shot down by those who want to go with the narrative.

I believe that we all know what’s right in our hearts but we stop ourselves (self-censor) out of fear of what others will think. The problem with this is that this self-censoring disempowers us when we ignore our inner voice. We can counteract this by speaking out to those around us. It doesn’t have to be much and I wouldn’t be wasting any time on those who are ready to shoot us down if we speak up. Develop a thick skin, avoid the negative Nancys of the world, and speak your mind. Do it in a way that feels comfortable to you and within the resources you have available.

our beliefs shape our efforts

If we believe we are capable of something then of course we are going to be capable of it. The same goes for the opposite. If we believe we aren’t capable, then, of course, we aren’t going to be capable….. of anything. How many times can you think of when you’ve been in a situation? Part of empowering ourselves is being able to actually believe in our abilities and to just give things a go. We don’t have to have the belief that we will be perfect, but possessing the belief that we have the courage to try things, is often enough.

shifting out of our comfort zone

It’s not easy stepping outside our comfort zone hence the phrase ‘comfort zone’! But one way we can empower ourselves to do more and expand ourselves, stepping outside our comfort zone is a way to achieve this. Push down those comfort walls. Push them down one at a time.

Pick something easy to start with. Even if this is something as simple as going a different direction on a morning walk, or going to a gathering we might not have even considered before. Just do something simple that’s different and give it a go. When we move outside our comfort zone, we are better able to think for ourselves. It seems to push buttons in different ways. Different from the ways in which we have been conditioned to think.

If you find it difficult to push down those walls of your current comfort zone, here are some additional ways to get out of it.

empowering ourselves just the way we are

Ok so the pencil above with the broken lead doesn’t look so happy but hey, he’s taking part! What I’m trying to get across here is that no matter what you look like, what you might think about yourself, you’re ok the way you are. One of the most disempowering things we can do for ourselves is not to love ourselves the way we are. When we accept ourselves the way we are – our strengths, our weaknesses, our muffin top (you get me here), we are working with the ego rather than against it. It doesn’t matter if you’ve ‘lead’ in your pencil or not, love yourself the way you are and feel more empowered – just the way you are!

empower ourselves through knowledge

Nothing says self-empowerment more than increased knowledge. When we are armed with knowledge, it helps set us up for challenges we might encounter. One of the major issues we have with a society today is that the majority of people are happy to be fed information rather than seeking it themselves. The more we know about a situation, the more we can make informed decisions.

There are plenty of ways we can get information.

  • audiobooks
  • online courses
  • alternative media (mainstream media is controlled by the same people, therefore, does not offer an unbiased view on topics)
  • seek uncensored media so you can make your own mind up
  • Research, research, research and keep questioning!

dig deep to find the strength

It’s pretty easy to stand in the crowd, but it takes courage to stand alone. To go against the grain of what everyone else is doing takes a lot of courage. Again, I think it comes down to conditioning. It’s almost like we’ve been taught to keep our heads down and don’t look different. But with the current state of the world and its move towards a control grid, standing out from the crowd and speaking up, has never been more important. So dig deep. Find the courage and speak out in whatever way possible.

Whether it’s through art, music, comedy, writing, or memes (man I love memes), keep speaking out to reach those who are starting to question things. You may just reach one person, or even better, reach a few!

empower others through our own change

A large part of empowerment, well how I see it, is being able to change our own behaviour so that others can see it’s possible. One way to do this is to change ourselves by stepping out of fear and showing others it’s ok to do so. It’s not easy. It’s also really important to understand that some people don’t want to change. And they don’t want our help either. My suggestion through my personal experience is be there for the people who actually want to change while keeping the focus on ourselves. Put our energy into that. Be our own hero! It’s a better use of our energy, especially in the times we are in now.

find the courage

Finding the courage to stand our ground and empower ourselves isn’t easy. But ultimately, we are the only ones in charge of what we do. And we have to remember that a lot of people may feel uncomfortable with us wanting to change. That’s ok. Let them do them. But you do YOU!
